The rest however, are in bags and boxes:
This non-sellable pile continues to grow and the tough question settles in -- who, what, where do I take this stuff? The first thing that comes to mind is the Salvation Army, but there must be another non-profit organization in my local area that will not resell my items. That is not how I want my donated goods handled. I just want them to be given to someone who does need the items (clothing, office supplies, etc) for F-R-E-E. So, luckily, I came across this website -- charitychoices dot com.
Caution about charities -- in my personal view of things, I prefer to give to charities with low overhead -- and fortunately, charitychoices provides that information -- "% spent on Administration and Fundraising" -- found on each charity's information page, left hand pane. Each charity listed also had a list of items they were accepting. Based on these two criteria, I decided to give my things to the following charity:
- The National Center for Children and Families (6301 Greentree Rd., Bethesda, MD 20817). Their current wish list is found on their site -- In-Kind Donations.
